Those of you following along at home may remember that herself left in early September, going on 7 months ago now.

So how are things?

I'm surviving okay. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. It's tough, finding motivation to do things, and most evenings I'm home with a puter and a kitty in my lap. Nowadays it's habit; a few months ago it was fending off despair.

I'm sooooo glad the winter is mostly over. We had snow up to Shaq's eyebrows over the heart of the winter, typically 8" to 2' at a time. I'm some damn tired of shoveling snow over my head. Now? It snows 2", maybe, with a bunch of rain, and then it's 50 the next day.

I have daffodils and tulips coming up, and crocuses blooming. The rhubarb (now: old enough to eat!) has ruffly leaves showing at ground level.

The minority report on all this (qualified) optimism is that the stress in my life is stored in the knots in the muscles of my back. I scheduled another massage for Monday night, and I'm looking forward to that. In the meanwhile, stretching, reading about McKenzie exercises for the back, and a superball some kids lost in my yard. The ball I roll around between my back and the wall, and I can put as much or as little pressure as I want on particular muscles. I'm a little concerned about how much stress ends up on those knots, but I don't really notice it otherwise.

Well, I've been a little panicky around food and cooking this week. Tonight I made a very nice pork chop, steamed some Brussels sprouts, and nuked a potato. Tasty, and healthy, kinda sorta mostly. And I bought stuff for a faux Indian chicken dish, perhaps for tomorrow night.

And there's still a month of Lent, almost. Easter is way late this year. Tomorrow is Pink Sunday; dunno what the story is, but the vestments are hot pink. I think I'll wear something like that myself. And the music in Deep Lent is exquisite. One year a while back I had recently slipped, fallen, and broken a rib. So I could really get into the "no kind of pain..." lyrics.

And lastly, courtesy of synecdochic quoting one of her religion professors: "Religion is about comfort. We check in with God from time to time to reassure him that his suffering is worthwhile."
